CLEMSON, SC (AP/FOX Carolina) -
Clemson University is building an apartment village that will house up to 1,400 students when it opens in three years.
The school says the $123 million complex will include rooms for students studying at a nearby technical college who plan to transfer to Clemson.
Planning director Gerald Vander Mey said upperclassmen and graduate students will get 700 beds in the apartments. The other 700 beds will go to students participating in the Bridge to Clemson program for students at Tri-County Technical College.
Tri-County Technical College President Ronnie Booth said the apartment village will help his students make the transition to the university-setting.
The apartments will have their own bathrooms, kitchens, dining rooms and living rooms.
Vander Mey sad the complex will include stores and restaurants. It will be located at the east entrance to campus on the site of the former Douthit Hills housing development.
Pending state approvals, construction on the project is slated to begin in 2013 with a fall 2015 opening date.
