EASLEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Anderson County deputies called off the search for a man who they say fled after a brief chase and crash Monday afternoon.

Chad McBride, spokesman for the Anderson County Sheriff's Office, said a deputy was traveling on a road when a vehicle pulled out in front of him, almost causing a crash. He said that when the deputy tried to stop the vehicle, the driver sped away.

McBride said a brief chase ensued, which ended in a crash off of East Church Road. He said a man in the truck, identified as 26-year-old James "Jamie" Marchbanks, jumped out of the vehicle and fled into nearby wooded area.

Marchbanks was described as white, 5'11" tall, 160 pounds with a shaved head. He was last seen wearing a gray, long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.

McBride said deputies are using search dogs to find Marchbanks.

The search was called off at dark, McBride said. He said Marchbanks was not found.

Anyone with information on Marchbanks whereabouts is asked to call 911 immediately.
