GREENWOOD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenwood police said they arrested a man Tuesday who killed a woman last week.

Police said that on Friday, they were called to a house on Chappel Street, where they found Jermel Tompkins and Erica Wideman, who was injured, in the crawlspace under the house.

Investigators said that Tompkins fled but was arrested after a brief foot chase. They said that Wideman was rushed to Self Regional Hospital to be treated, but she later died from her injuries.

An autopsy determined that Wideman died from strangulation, police said.

Tompkins was charged with murder in connection with Wideman's death.
