The Spinx Co. is celebrating 40 years of business this year and in honor of their anniversary, the company is giving away free gasoline.

In 1972, Stewart Spinks bought his first store at the corner of Washington Street and Laurens Road in downtown Greenville and expanded his company to more than 65 locations in North and South Carolina.

For the anniversary, the company plans to hold a 40th Anniversary Celebration event at a local store every 40 days throughout the year, where they will give away free gas to 40 customers, starting Thursday.

In order to find out which store is giving away the gas, customers must visit the Spinx Facebook page and use the series of clues to figure out the secret store location. Customers can like the company's Facebook page to receive alerts on the clues.

The company is also offering $1,000 scholarships to 40 local high school seniors as a part of the anniversary celebration. The scholarship applications open on March 1 online at www.myspinx.com.
