Andy Wood and I were talking about this weekend's forecast earlier, and we agree that temperatures may just be colder than we think. For now, our forecast numbers are in the low 40s for Sunday in the Upstate and mid 30s in the mountains. But, we could very well stay in the 30s area-wide through Sunday, and overnight temps could flight with single digits in the highest elevations by Sunday night. Snow on the ground could be a factor in the forecast for Sunday.
Tomorrow is looking like a typical early February day with highs in the mid 50s for the Upstate and upper 40s in the mountains under sunshine. Friday will be slightly warmer as our next front approaches, and we'll notice more clouds in the afternoon. Friday night into Saturday morning the front will move through, bringing snow to the TN border counties in western NC, light snow showers near Asheville and possibly a few flurries in the northern Upstate through Saturday AM. 2-4 inches will be likely above 3500 ft, while lesser amounts will fall below that. The cold air will really settle in for Saturday night! Lows will dip into the 20s area-wide with blustery conditions making temps feel even colder. Winds will calm through Sunday, but highs will only make the 30s and low 40s. Snow on the ground in parts of western NC could really keep temps down through the day Sunday, then Sunday night we'll get into the teens and low 20s area-wide.
Temps will slowly warm through next week, and an interesting storm system heads in for late week. Could mean severe weather for us, but it's a little early to call.
