Good morning, and Happy Valentine's Day! As far as the forecast is concerned, it's right on track with what we were expecting yesterday... and we love when that happens!
In the Mountains (SW NC and NE GA), we're seeing mainly snow and sleet at this point. By mid-morning, we're expecting these areas to transition to some freezing rain - so the accumulations of sleet/snow will be covered by an icy glaze. The only areas where we are expecting accumulations are those in the Winter Weather Advisory (see right). These locations will see minimal accumulations - up to an inch of sleet/snow followed by a light icy glaze on top.
Be especially careful on bridges and overpasses through late-morning. By lunchtime and beyond, WNC should be looking at only liquid precipitation.
In the Upstate, you may see some patchy sleet mix in through 8 AM, but it has been (and will continue to be) primarily rain falling. We won't see any road difficulties or icy spots - even if you do see a minute or two of sleet - as temperatures across the Upstate have held in the upper 30s and low 40s.
If you're taking your Valentine out on a date later today and tonight, just watch for a spotty raindrop or two. Rain chances will be much lower beyond noon - but the clouds will linger through the day. Highs will reach the upper 40s in both the Upstate and Mountains. Clouds will begin to clear overnight, with fog settling in. Some of this fog may be dense as you hit the roads on Wednesday morning.
Tomorrow will be a spring-like day - highs will rise into the low 60s in the Upstate and near 60 degrees in WNC. We'll see more sun under partly cloudy skies - with any small shower chances holding off until late evening. The higher chance of rain won't arrive until Thursday.
