Good morning - hope all your Valentine's Day plans were fantastic! While many people would probably like to sleep in a few extra minutes, that's not in the cards for us this morning. Thick fog has settled in over much of the area - and just about all counties in our viewing area are under a Dense Fog Advisory through 9 AM.
In addition to the fog, we also have freezing fog in some of our southern/eastern Upstate spots and also through WNC locations. Thanks to Kendra for the great explainer last night on freezing fog - if you didn't read it, check out the previous post. This could allow for some slick spots on bridges and overpasses, or some frosty spots on your car, back porch or any railings along sidewalks/stairways.
The fog will lift through the mid and late-morning, and then we'll see a big turnaround! We'll enjoy lots of sun this afternoon (mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies) and highs will be spring-like. We'll rise into the low 60s across much of the area, including Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and even Asheville!
Clouds build in overnight and some showers will begin to advance in as we're sleeping. A cold front will bring a high chance of rain on Thursday... and it looks like it will be a soggy, slow morning commute tomorrow. Rain totals won't be overly high - but a good 1/4 - 3/4 inch in the rain gauge can be expected.
Friday brings another dry, mild day - before the next system brings rain back for the weekend. The latest model runs keep the Upstate too warm for anything but rain Saturday and Sunday. In the Mountains, we'll start with rain on Saturday, before rain begins to mix with snow on Sunday. We'll continue to watch it, but it looks like a non-winter event for everyone but the higher elevations in WNC.
