ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Military veterans who fought on the battlefield are now finding themselves serving in the classroom.
South Carolina ranks eighth in the nation when it comes to retired troops going into teaching.
Wren Middle School teacher Brian Lively decided after a couple of years of teaching he wanted to enlist.
After serving eight years in the US Army and becoming an officer, he returned to teaching last year. The federal program called Troop to Teachers helped Lively with his transition.
Lively says it was a tough decision but one he is glad he made. He still serves with the National Guard.
