Few Problems Now... Then A Nice Afternoon

Posted: Updated:

Good morning, and happy Presidents Day!  If you have the day off and get to sleep in, you're lucky!  Temperatures are off to a cold start - in the upper 20s and low 30s for many.  There is still a few wet patches on the roads from yesterday's rain - and with those cold temperatures we have seen a few of these patches turn icy.

In Spartanburg County there are reports of several accidents on I-26 near mile marker 20.  A bridge appears to be the problem - and if you encounter any "wet" spots on bridges or overpasses this morning, consider them to be potentially icy.  On roads, we won't see any problems across the Upstate - but you may encounter some more black ice in Northern Mountain Counties (Mitchell, Yancey) where the snow fell yesterday.

In addition to the few slick spots, there are also some areas of patchy fog this morning.  The problem spot has been Rutherfordton, where visibilities have been at or below a half-mile.  Light fog may slow you down in Upstate cities like Anderson, Clemson and Spartanburg.

Clouds are quickly moving out, and the remainder of the day will be quiet and dry.  Under mostly sunny skies, temperatures will rise to seasonal levels.  Upstate highs will reach the mid 50s, while WNC cities can expect highs in the low 50s.  Tomorrow will bring more of the same - a cold start followed by a bright and seasonable afternoon.

The middle and late part of the week will be milder - highs across the area will rise into the low to mid 60s Wednesday and Thursday (even Friday temps will be in the 60s in Upstate areas).  However, a cold front will bring rain back to the area late Thursday and during the day Friday.  Some WNC spots will see a changeover to snow later on Friday - but as of now, it doesn't look like a big winter weather event for the Mountains.  We'll watch it as we go through the week, though - and we'll keep you posted!
