GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Gas prices in the Greenville area were 3.1 cents higher Monday than last week, according to GasBuddy.com.
The price-tracking website said that Greenville drivers were paying $3.37 per gallon on average, which is lower than the national average of $3.51 per gallon.
Locally, Monday's prices were 20 cents higher than last month and 40.1 cents higher than last year. Nationally, Monday's prices were 17.1 cents higher than last month and 35 cents higher than last year.
Experts said the slow increase in gas prices will pick up the pace as spring approaches.
"As we continue to move toward warmer weather, gasoline prices will follow, with prices accelerating higher at a faster pace come later March into April," said GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan. "If motorists think this is bad, they should really hold on to their chairs."
Despite the steady increase in prices, South Carolina drivers are paying some of the lowest gas prices in the region. AAA reported the average price for a gallon of gas was at $3.44 in South Carolina, $3.65 in North Carolina and $3.54 in Georgia.
