SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Officials said part of the Archibald Rutledge Apartment complex on North Church Street in Spartanburg was evacuated Tuesday evening after the sprinkler system flooded 10 floors.
Spartanburg Fire Chief Marion Blackwell tells FOX Carolina that the sprinkler system was turned on after a stove top caught fire.
Residents who were without a place to stay will spend the night in other apartments in the complex.
The Red Cross was also providing assistance to the residents. Lora High with the Red Cross said 20 residents spent the night at a local church because they did not have families or anywhere else to stay.
High said they hope the housing authority will have alternate places for them to stay soon.
