GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

If you step into Coffee Underground in downtown Greenville, you can smell the coffee brewing and you can hear the mocha being made.

It's even served with a heart, but some believe real love is defined with just a click.

"It's not Facebook official mainly because I don't want it to be," Kirsten Scheil, a Facebook user, said.

Scheil said she is in a serious relationship, but she didn't post a status on her Facebook page.

"I've heard crazy stories about break-ups and 'Oh, he took it off first' and I don't know what that means," she said.

The latest phenomenon is called "Facebook official." It's when Facebook users want their significant other to change their status while in a relationship.

"I was tired of the jealousy that was created between me and my boyfriend," Iris Chinn, another Facebook user, said.

She said those having the urge to be Facebook official is real, but not for her.

"Oh, so-and-so got in a relationship with who-and-who, but I don't really care," she said.

She said in her relationship, it was more about posts than her status.

"I just didn't care about that and I cared more about him feeling comfortable, so that's why I deleted it," she said.

Therapists said the idea that couples feel like someone has to post an official status raises anxiety and adds pressure to a relationship.

"I might want to date you, you might think I need to change my status that day," said Roger Rhoades, a clinical therapist.

Rhoades said relationships are hard enough and forcing someone to make it Facebook official can increase insecurities.

"What we're trying to do is adjust our lives so that Facebook represents us the way we want it to represent ourselves," he said.

Rhoades said it could make your real relationship officially complicated.
