Spartanburg police arrested a man late Saturday night in connection with a shooting outside a restaurant early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened about 4:15 a.m. at the Waffle House at 2193 Southport Road.

Police said that the victim said he was trying to defuse an argument between one of his friends and the gunman when he was shot in the lower leg.

Investigators said the gunman fled the scene in a cream- or yellow-colored Regal or Cutlass with a soft top.

Saturday evening, police said they arrested 27-year-old James Nash, of Union, in connection with the shooting. He was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He was being held at the Spartanburg County jail.
