HP: Driver charged in deadly Clinton crash

CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers said the driver involved in a crash in Clinton on Sunday afternoon was charged after a motorcyclist died.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported the fatal crash that happened along Charlotte Road. Troopers said the motorcycle was headed east when another car hit it as it was turning off of the road.

Troopers charged the driver of the car, 51-year-old Sarah Nichols, of Clinton, with felony driving under the influence involving death and simple possession of marijuana in connection with the crash.

Laurens County Coroner Nick Nichols said the victim, 67-year-old Freddie Heaton, of Clinton, died at Greenville Memorial Hospital after being transported to the hospital.

Nichols was being held at the Laurens County Detention Center.
