The crash happened at 2:32 p.m. near the intersection of Haywood Street and North French Broad Avenue.

Police said Soheil Mojarrad was walking eastbound on the sidewalk along Haywood Street when for some reason he fell into the westbound lanes of the road. They said Mojarrad fell under the right rear wheel of a car.
