SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said a man tried to buy flavored cigar wraps before robbing a Cowpens store at knife point Saturday.

Jesse Ray Hindman, 25, of Gaffney, was arrested after a 4-mile vehicle chase following a robbery of the Lil Cricket store on Battleground Road, Spartanburg County deputies said.

The clerk told deputies that Hindman came in about 11 p.m. and asked to buy white grape White Owl cigars, but he did not have enough money, so he asked for something cheaper.

Deputies said the clerk then offered him blueberry wraps, and when he agreed to buy them and she opened the cash register, Hindman pulled out a knife and demanded all of the money, including rolls of pennies from the drawer.

Hindman fled with about $30 in paper cash and $34 in pennies, according to deputies.

Deputies said they arrested Hindman about 4 a.m. Sunday and charged him with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, failure to stop for blue lights, and served an unrelated, outstanding warrant for second-degree burglary.
