Temps tonight will be about 10-15 degrees colder than normal! We'll drop to near 30 in most mountain spots, and we'll hit the upper 30s in the Upstate. Tender plants will be in trouble tonight in the mountains if precautions aren't taken, while it shouldn't be too bad in the Upstate. With the breezy winds overnight, we'll only see patchy frost. Just to be safe, I'd put a sheet over any outdoor plants that are susceptible to the cold temps!
I talked to the National Weather Service guys at GSP, and they told me that after April 15th, we have about a 10% chance of getting a freeze across the Upstate. While in the mountains there's a greater risk (which makes sense!). Latest freeze for both Asheville and GSP were both in mid May!
This week is a weird and tricky forecast. Northwest upper flow continues tomorrow, which will bring some clouds off and on, and possibly a sprinkle or 2 in the mountains. Late Tuesday, a front will develop to our southwest and pull in some moisture for Wednesday morning. So, we'll keep clouds around through mid-week, with the best chance of rain coming with the migrating front on Wednesday morning-midday. Once the front drifts north of us, the warm air can really take over! Highs will reach to around 80 in the Upstate to wrap up the workweek, and afternoon t-storms will be back in the mix!
