ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Officials at Mission Hospital in Asheville said its emergency room was locked down early Wednesday morning.

Security officials at the hospital said the additional security measures were put in place to secure patient safety in connection with a subject who suffered gunshot wounds.

Hospital officials said the emergency room accepted patients during the time of heightened security, which was lifted about 8:30 a.m.

Black Mountain Police Detective Lee Ribley said they were investigating a shooting that happened at 27 Weaver Lane.

Ribley said police received a call about 4:20 a.m. at a shooting at the home where one man was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the torso, and the other had received a head injury.

According to police, when the hospital realized the two subjects had been involved a shooting, they increased security due to their own procedures.

Ribley said there was never a shooter at large, and officers are continuing to investigate the incident. He said they have sent their information to the district attorney's office to determine if charges will be filed.
