Deputies said an Enoree couple is accused of excessively spanking the woman's 15-year-old daughter and punishing her with hard labor and lack of food.

Spartanburg County deputies said they were notified of the possible abuse or neglect on March 6 after the victim told her neighbor that Donnie Bragg Jr., 35, had "whupped her" and she "couldn't feel her bottom."

The neighbor told deputies that she saw marks on the girl, she appeared dirty and her son said she had worn the same clothes to school for several days.

According to the incident report, the girl told deputies that Bragg knew she had been suspended from school for stealing candy, so her mother Tina Thomas, 35, spanked her about 20 times with a paddle then Bragg hit her with a strap five to six times.

The girl said Bragg makes her and her sister run up and down the driveway carrying rocks and makes them do squats, along with picking up railroad track gravel and spikes as punishments, according to the report.

The report said Bragg does not let her eat anything but rice, oatmeal and a vegetable even though there is other food in the house.

The day of the report, the girl said she got away to tell the neighbor because she had eaten chocolate and knew Bragg would make her go to the bathroom outside with a bucket, according to the report.

One of the deputies wrote in the report that while "aware that teen girls often tell stories to get what they want, I believe much of what the victim told me to be true and I believe there are serious problems in the household."

Deputies arrested Bragg and Thomas on April 20 following interviews with everyone involved and deputies' investigation. They were both charged with unlawful neglect of a child and released on $10,000 bonds each.

The girl was placed by the South Carolina Department of Social Services with a relative, according to deputies. The two other minor children, a 13-year-old boy and a 17-year-old girl, were taken into protective custody and placed with DSS.
