Warm With Mountain T-Storms

Posted: Updated:

Good morning!  I'm back after a nice trip to Mexico - and I hear I missed some cooler weather around here!  It was pretty quiet down south, but I did get the chance to experience my first earthquake - very cool!

It's a warm morning, with temps starting off in the 50s in the Mountains and 60s in the Upstate.  Winds are picking up out of the west, and they'll be breezy today.  Expect wind speeds of 10-20 mph, with gusts 20-25+ mph.

Generally, skies will be partly cloudy... and the Upstate spots will stay on the dry side.  An isolated late-day shower or storm is possible, but many areas in SC and NE GA won't see any activity.  There's a better possibility of scattered storms across the Mountains, and these areas will also see a better chance of some strong/severe storms.

Some storms are pushing through north-central TN as of this writing (around 7 AM) - and these could impact some of our TN border areas by 9 or 10 AM.  Through the early afternoon a few storms are possible... the better chance of the widespread action will hold off until the mid/late afternoon and evening.

The SPC has placed the WNC Mountains in the Slight Risk area, which you can view here.  Today's threats will be damaging wind gusts and hail.  We'll keep you updated on any watches or warnings as they day goes on.

Highs this afternoon will be warmer than yesterday - ranging from the mid 70s to low 80s.  Friday will bring a similar forecast, with warm temps and a few PM storms on tap.
