PICKENS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Pickens County man is being called a hero for helping an elderly woman who had fallen in her home.

Mike Rowland decided on a different route into work last Thursday; while he was driving he noticed flashing porch lights on a home.

After knocking on the door, he found 81-year-old Victoria Bagwell. Bagwell had fallen and dislocated her hip.

Bagwell says she couldn't walk or open the door, she could only reach the light switch. After approaching the house suspiciously, Rowland soon realized he had to help.

She had been there about two hours by the time her hero showed up.

Rowland immediately called Bagwell's nephew and dialed 911.

She credits Rowland with saving her life. They both agree divine intervention brought them together.

Bagwell is slowly getting better; she says from now on she'll wear a security device around her neck.
