RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

Shortly after Beunka Adams was given a lethal injection for the 2002 murder of Kenneth Vandever, Kenneth's father Don told KLTV 7 "I wanted to make sure that he got justice done and, to some extent, that's what happened. Not that it changes anything. It's not going to bring Kenneth back. That's it."

Don Vandever has remained quiet about his son's abduction and murder for nearly ten years. He said the execution of Beunka Adams does not change what happened to his son or the 2 victims that survived.

He said "I would have loved to seen him go through some of the pain that he inflicted on Nikki that she has to live with the rest of her life."

Nikki Ansley, who was sexually assaulted and shot, went with her parents and her brother to the execution chamber. She says it was important to watch Adams die.

"Standing in there, it was a feeling that I didn't want to help him. He asked for forgiveness and I forgive him, but he had to pay the consequences."

For about 2 minutes before the lethal injection, Adams told his family, who were not present, that he loved them. To his victims, Adams said he was very sorry for everything.

Nikki said she'll remember those words that Adams said, but she also remembers Kenneth's last words were to her the night he was shot.

"He didn't get the chance to tell everyone that loved them. And whatever his feelings were and when he walked out the door, he didn't know that it was going to be his last breath that night, and Beunka was prepared for it," Nikki said.
