GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville police are investigating the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy.

The Greenville County Coroner's Office said Davius Boyd was found dead inside a home on Willard Street about 6 p.m. Saturday.

Officers said two other children were also in the home at the time of the incident. Davius lived a few houses down from where the incident happened, according to officials.

"He was a very loving kid. he was very mannerable," said Davius' grandmother, Juanita Boyd. "He wouldn't talk back. He would call me grandma. I love all my grandkids."

Davius' grandmother said he did not grow up around guns, and she would not even buy him toy guns.

"I want everybody in the whole wide world to know, please don't leave those guns unattended. Take care of these kids,"said Tito Boyd, Davius' father.

His family said Davius was an honor roll student and class leader at Berea Elementary School. Greenville County School District officials said there will be grief counselors on hand Monday for students, faculty and staff.

Coroner Kent Dill said Monday that Davius received a single gunshot wound to the neck from a 9mm, but could not release any further information as the investigation was ongoing.
