HONEA PATH, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Honea Path police officer was hurt while investigating a report of a fight at a bar early Sunday morning.

Chief David King said officers were called to Last Stop Bar on U Street. He said that when officer arrived they found several people outside the bar who were arguing.

King said that when the officer tried to go inside to get more information, a group of people exiting the bar knocked him down. He said that was when a second officer called for backup, and officers from the Belton Police Department and deputies from the Anderson County Sheriff's Office responded.

The officer was taken to AnMed for treatment, and is expected to fully recover, King said. He said the officer was expected to be out of work for two to three days.

King said it appears that the officer was accidentally knocked down, and no one has been arrested. He said the people causing trouble had left before officers arrived and the people leaving the area helped the officer who was knocked down until EMS arrived.

Police dispersed about 60 to 80 people because it was midnight, when the bar was supposed to close due to Sunday morning state and local alcohol regulations, according to King.
