Record Heat Coming Wednesday - FOX Carolina 21

Record Heat Coming Wednesday

Posted: Updated:

Phew - I'll keep today's post short and sweet since I'm feeling like a broken record talking about another day of heat!  Highs will be in record territory today, and we'll probably set a new record at GSP.

The record at GSP airport is 90 degrees, and that's exactly what I'm going with for today's forecast.  Anything above 90° will set the record, but I think we've got the best chance to tie it.  In the Mountains, Asheville's high will rise to around 86 degrees - just short of the record, which is 88°.

The Upstate will stay dry under mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies, while there will be a few extra clouds overhead in the Mountains.  An isolated late-day shower or storm will be possible through the Mountains, but most spots will stay dry up in WNC.  As has been the case over the past few days, any storm that fires has the potential to become strong or severe.  We had several hail reports yesterday, and any strong storms today could also produce some hail.  All storms - even those that aren't strong or severe - could bring some heavy downpours and lots of lightning.

Temps will stay hot through the remainder of the week - in fact, we'll be near the record tomorrow through Sunday.  Small PM t-storm chances will linger through the weekend... but the big story will be how Cinco de Mayo will feel more like the 4th of July!  Have a great day!
