SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Spartanburg man was killed in a crash along Interstate 85 in Spartanburg County on Wednesday morning.
The crash happened about 9:50 a.m. on I-85 southbound near mile marker 62.5, south of U.S. Highway 29.
Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne of the South Carolina Highway Patrol said a pedestrian, identified by the Spartanburg County Coroner's Office as 22-year-old William "Matthew" Smith, was outside of his vehicle when he was hit and killed.
Spartanburg County Coroner's investigator Dwayne Corn said Smith was trying to secure a motorcycle on the back of a pickup truck in which he was a passenger when he was struck by a tractor trailer.
