My new hybrid word... Sprummer!

Posted: Updated:

I spent some time outdoors this morning, and I'm really glad I got everything done before noon!  Even with temps in the 70s through the morning, it felt pretty uncomfortable.  That was all courtesy of our higher humidity.  In the Upstate and northeast GA, dew points are running from low to mid 60s... and that's HUMID!  It's summery kind of humidity in fact.  That will continue into tomorrow as southerly winds continue to reinforce the moisture in the air.

Alex and I both forecasted 90 as a high for today, which would have tied the record!  But, the higher humidity levels kept temps from exploding into the 90s. It may have FELT like the 90s at times, but actual temps only got into the mid 80s for most Upstate spots.  That's the funny thing about humidity... when there's a good amount of moisture in the air, the actual temperatures usually can't get to ridiculous levels.  However, the moisture in the air makes it FEEL so much hotter!  I knew it was humid today when I was sweating and the sweat just wouldn't go anywhere!  Blah!  And we have several more months of this fun stuff ahead.

A few storms will fire in the mountains tomorrow, kind of like we saw today.  Northeast GA will be a bit more vulnerable to storm activity Thursday as a disturbance pushes north from the gulf, but most spots in the Upstate should stay dry thanks to the high pressure ridge helping to cap off any big time storm development.

Friday will be a little different, as our ridge of high pressure weakens and a few storms will be possible area-wide.  That trend will continue through the weekend, with temp still well-above normal!

Stay cool!  Maybe it's about time to go buy some of those otter-pops or drumsticks to keep out internal temps down ;)  I think I may have to do that tomorrow!  Or maybe a quick trip to Cold Stone is in order!  However you like to stay cool, just be careful in all this heat and humidity!
