Greenville County deputies said a Mauldin man accused of holding up two hotels during the past two weeks was arrested in North Carolina on Thursday morning.
The first holdup happened April 26 at the Econo Lodge at 20 Interstate Court.
Deputies said the man walked into the hotel, demanded money and got away with some cash.
The second holdup happened about April 29 at Fairfield Inn at 48 Fisherman Lane, according to investigators.
Deputies said the man walked into the hotel under the guise of renting a room, and while talking with an employee, he demanded money. The employee gave the suspect some money from the register and he fled, deputies said.
On May 3, deputies said the same man tried to rob the same Econo Lodge that was previously robbed.
Deputies said the man walked into the hotel, demanded money and told the clerk not to push the alarm. They said the employee then walked to an office and called 911, prompting the man to flee without money.
On Thursday, deputies said that 44-year-old Phillip Honeycutt was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Charlotte. They said he was found staying a hotel in the area.
Honeycutt was charged with attempted robbery and two counts of strong-arm robbery. He was being held in North Carolina until he can be extradited to South Carolina.
