NEWBERRY, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A suspect in an armed robbery in Laurens County on Friday night was arrested after a manhunt in neighboring Newberry County that lasted three hours.
Deputies said that the robbery, in which the robber was armed with a knife, happened at a rest area on Interstate 385. They said the Highway Patrol found the vehicle believed to be used in the robbery at a rest area on Interstate 26 in Newberry County about 10 p.m.. They said the driver fled into the woods near the rest area when troopers arrived.
Law enforcement officers from several agencies surrounded the area and called in search dogs and a helicopter to find the man, and he was located about 1 a.m.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Claude Turnage, of Taylors. He was being held in jail.
Turnage was recently named a suspect in a series of purse snatching in Greer, Travelers Rest and Laurens.
