A mother was accused of child neglect after Spartanburg County deputies said she left her 2-year-old son lying on the floor of her car naked while she danced around in a stranger's yard.
Deputies said they were called to a home on Parris Bridge Road on Thursday where the homeowner said a woman she had never seen before pulled up in her driveway, got out and began dancing around.
When the homeowner looked into the car, she saw a young boy asleep on the floor behind the driver's seat wearing no clothes, deputies said.
The mother, identified as 35-year-old Shana Bishop, said she thought she was at her mother-in-law's home but didn't know how she got there, the deputy's report said. Deputies said Bishop was homeless.
The woman described Bishop as very disheveled with a removable cup holder tangled in her hair and said she appeared to be under some type of narcotic like methamphetamines, deputies said.
Deputies said when they arrived, Bishop was in an incoherent state of mind while the child was laying nude in the fetal position on a pile of trash inside the car. They said the child also had several welts and bruises on his legs.
Bishop was arrested and charged with neglect of child. Her bond was set at $10,000.
Deputies contacted Bishop's mother, who said she and her husband had been raising the child. But Bishop came and took him away three weeks earlier, and they had not been able to find them since.
The child was taken to the hospital before he was released back into his grandparents' custody.
