GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -
Charges against a former secretary of the Clemson Board of Trustees were dropped Friday.
On Oct. 19, 2010, then-Solicitor Bob Ariail said the State Law Enforcement Division looked into the activities of Chalmers Troutman III, which was requested after he received a letter from Troutman's attorney regarding his client's involvement.
The two indictments accused Troutman of removing a computer, boxes of documents and computer disks that were the property of Clemson University. He was charged with violation of the Computer Crime Act and grand larceny.
On Friday, now-Solicitor Walt Wilkins said that further investigation and the death of a material witness led him to conclude there is not enough evidence to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
