You can see it on the shirts, faces, minds and hearts of the people that gathered Saturday afternoon - they believe Evelyn Shelton is alive and well.
Among the first in that belief is her brother, Timothy. He's had to wonder over the past year where Evelyn could be.
"The first couple of days was hard, really hard," he said. "You don't know what you're doing, you don't know why. You're like a blind man walking around, and not being able to hear. You don't know what to do, or what's in front of you."
Shelton said his sister's disappearance has brought his family closer to each other, and their faith. It's also brought them closer to other families going through the same situation.
"Since this has happened, I, personally, hear everything when someone goes missing, and it hurts. I feel for that individual because I was there, and I know what it feels like," he said.
Saturday's vigil, just ahead of the one-year mark when Evelyn Shelton was last seen, is meant as a celebration. The answers as to where she could be haven't come yet, but there is hope.
"We believe in miracles, and the miracle of life, and looking for Evelyn and expecting the good," said Pastor Lawyer Watson with Life of Jesus Ministries.
"I don't want to speculate as to what it could be. All I know is that I don't feel that in my heart of hearts that she's gone," Timothy Shelton said.
Despite a lot of attention on the case, leads have all but dried up. The family said they're waiting for that one phone call that could change it all.
"If you're in Columbia, Kalamazoo, just tell me, I'll get there," Shelton said.
