GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing at an Upstate night club that injured at least one person.

It happened about 3:15 a.m. Sunday morning at Club La Roka on South Pleasantburg Drive in Greenville.

Deputies said there was a verbal fight in the parking lot that escalated when the suspect stabbed the victim multiple times in the stomach. The victim was taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital where he is still being treated, deputies said.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Shadwick Ballenger of Greer, fled the scene prior to deputies arriving and abandoned his vehicle a short distance from the club, investigators said.

Deputies said they called Ballenger to ask him to come to the Law Enforcement Center for questioning, and when he voluntarily reported, he was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Ballenger was given bonds of $25,000 and $10,000, respectively, and has since been released.
