SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Troopers said the woman accused of killing two motorcyclists in a head-on crash Sunday fled the scene on foot and has been arrested in North Carolina.

A driver hit the motorcyclists at the intersection of Peachtree and Shortcut roads about 2 p.m. Sunday in Chesnee, troopers said.

The driver of the minivan crossed the center line, striking the victims head on, then got out of her vehicle and fled on foot, according to Lance Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Rhyne said Candace Beheler, 37, was arrested in Rutherford County, where she lives. It is not known how Beheler got back home after the crash.

Troopers said following the crash, search helicopters were called in to look for the driver, but she was not found.

Beheler was extradited back to Spartanburg County where she faces charges of two counts of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, one count of failure to yield left turn, driving without insurance, having an improper tag, and driving under suspension, Rhyne said.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said the victims killed were 25-year-old Jeremy Phillips and 26-year-old Danielle Hazelrigg, both of Chesnee.

Beheler is scheduled to go before a judge for a bond hearing in Spartanburg County Thursday afternoon.
