Water skiing encourages man to lose weight

John Cox loves water skiing. It's a sport he loved as a teenager, but it slowly drifted away until four years ago.

"It was skiing that inspired me to want to get back in shape," Cox said.  

He said his buddy purchased a boat and asked him to go skiing.

"Although, I felt like I was going to pass out, I still thought it was fun," he said.  

Cox said it was hard water skiing at 240 pounds. He said that day he decided to lose weight on his own until he discovered the Ultra Fit Program at Coop's Fitness. He has lost 75 pounds working out about four times a week with his personal trainer Brandon Daniels.

Cox said prior to losing weight, he took medication for ulcers, blood pressure and sleep.

"I was a typical couch potato," he said. 

Daniels said nutrition was John's challenge.

"He was doing pretty good on it, but sometimes wasn't getting quite enough fuel. It's all about accountability and I had to hold his feet to the fire," Daniels said. 

John said it was accountability and motivation that helped him loses the weight. He said it's the same for anyone who wants to do it.

"The further you go, the better you feel, the more you want to do it," Cox said.
