ASHEVILLE, NC (AP/FOX Carolina) -

Dispatchers said there was a chase through Haywood County and a shooting Tuesday morning.

Dispatch said the chase started about 10:30 a.m. in the Johnson Creek area of the county, continued onto Interstate 40 east then ended at 11:05 a.m. on Highway 19.

The chase ended right inside Haywood County, dispatch said. Paramedics were called to the scene, and emergency management service director Greg Shuping said someone was shot during the incident.

There is no report on what prompted the chase, but dispatchers said Highway Patrol troopers were involved in the chase and the State Bureau of Investigation will be called into investigate.

Parker County sheriff's authorities in Texas said a county inmate who fled a work detail last week by stealing a pickup truck has shot and killed himself after the chase through Haywood County.

The Associated Press reported that officials said 29-year-old Donald McFaden Orange was being pursued by Haywood County authorities who identified the truck he was driving as stolen. Haywood County Sheriff Bobby Suttles said Orange shot himself with a shotgun as deputies closed in late Tuesday morning.

Parker County officials said Orange likely stole some keys from a board at a county work office Friday and took off. The truck was found later in adjacent Jack County where he broke into a house, changed clothes and took a gun.

Orange initially was arrested last year on outstanding burglary and drug warrants.
