A Spartanburg man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Tuesday after admitting to raping a 7-year-old girl nearly three years ago.
Justin Velchoff, 24, pleaded guilty to first-degree criminal sexual conduct.
Prosecutors said that Velchoff was invited to the girl's home by the girl's mother on July 4, 2009. They said that the girl's mother engaged in sexual acts with Velchoff and another man who was also invited to the home.
Investigators said the girl was later sexually assaulted in the backyard, and a neighbor called deputies after the girl was heard screaming. They said a pair of men's boxer shorts was found at the scene.
The girl's mother was also arrested in connection with the attack, prosecutors said. They said she was charged with child neglect and pleaded guilty to that charge earlier this year.
Velchoff must serve 80 percent of his sentence before being eligible for parole. He will also have his name added to the Sex Offender Registry.
