Daryl Newton (Anderson Co. Sheriff's Office)
ANDERSON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A man was sentenced to 25 years in prison Tuesday after admitting to robbing two people and killing another nearly two years ago.
Daryl Newton, 22, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and armed robbery.
Prosecutors said that on Aug. 24, 2010, Newton and another man robbed two people at gunpoint in the parking lot of a grocery store on Highway 153 in Powdersville.
Eight days later, Newton shot and killed Josh Maness at Maness' home on Hood Road in Powdersville, prosecutors said. They said Newton and Maness had met earlier in the day, when Maness wanted to buy marijuana from Newton. They said Newton went to Maness' house later to rob him, but killed Maness in the process.
Prosecutors said Newton was arrested the next day.
Newton confessed to both crimes, prosecutors said.
