HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A man wanted in Greenville County, SC, was arrested in Hendersonville on Wednesday afternoon.

Henderson County deputies said they received information that 45-year-old Warren Newell, who was wanted on arson charges in Greenville County, SC, was at a home on Gibbs Road. They said that when deputies arrived at the home to arrest him, Newell fled into a home on Oakwood Road.

Deputies said they surrounded the home and arrested Newell after a brief standoff.

After his arrest, Newell said that he had taken several pills, deputies said. They said that as a precaution, Newell was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Newell was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of a schedule II controlled substance, maintaining a vehicle used in the keeping and selling of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was being held in the Henderson County jail on $70,000 bond.

Greenville County deputies said Newell was charged with arson after investigators determined he set his own vehicle on fire in the northern part of the county in April.

Newell must satisfy his bond in North Carolina before he can be extradited to South Carolina to face his charges, deputies said.
