It's going to be all about the HEAT this weekend - so hopefully the pool, lake or the sprinklers are a part of your holiday plans! A ridge of high pressure will hold through a good part of the weekend, bringing the heat and mainly dry conditions. A small storm chance will be with us through the second half of the weekend, but even then it won't be major. Here's your forecast breakdown:
TODAY: Hot and sunny! Highs will reach the mid 80s in the Mountains and near-90° in the Upstate.
SATURDAY: Hot and humid - temps will reach the low 90s across the Upstate. In the Mountains, highs will be in record-territory (I'm forecasting 87°, the record is 88° in AVL). We'll be partly cloudy and mainly dry... but WNC could see an isolated late-day shower or storm.
SUNDAY: Partly cloudy with an isolated PM shower or storm area-wide. Temps will stay hot, but won't be quite as high as Friday. Highs will reach the low/mid 80s in WNC, while Upstate areas will reach the upper 80s.
MEMORIAL DAY: Highs will work back to the low to mid 80s (keep in mind that's still a bit above-normal) under partly cloudy skies. A few hit-or-miss storms will fire up during the day, but many areas will stay dry. If you have an outdoor picnic or event planned, be aware of the small chance - but you probably won't need to use your indoor backup.
I know there are a lot of sports tournaments and other outdoor events going on, so it's important to stay hydrated as your spending time outside (especially if you're doing those exerting activities - I'm talking to you, baseball players!). We want everyone to stay safe this weekend!
Later today, Andy will be posting on what could become Tropical Cyclone Beryl - so he'll have more updates on what you can expect closer to the coast. As of now, SC beaches will have to be on the lookout for dangerous rip currents and large waves... along with a few showers and gusty winds.
