GANTT, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies said they were called to a Greenville-area home where a man was making suicidal threats and then pointed his gun at them.

Greenville County deputies are investigating a shooting that broke out in the Gantt community off of Cappy Way about 10:30 p.m. Monday.

Deputies said they got a call from someone who was threatening to commit suicide, and when they arrived at the home, the suspect came outside with what appeared to be a gun and pointed it at deputies.

Deputies said they were forced to shoot at the man, identified as 50-year-old Gene Roy. Roy was not hit and was taken into custody with incident, according to deputies.

Roy was charged with two counts of assault and battery first-degree.

Because Roy was not injured, the deputy who fired the gun will not be placed on administrative duty and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division was not called, deputies said.

The Greenville County Sheriff's Office said they will review the shooting to ensure their policy was followed.
