KINARDS, SC (FOX Carolina) -

An overturned truck prompted an evacuation in northern Newberry County on Tuesday.

The single-vehicle crash happened about 12:45 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. Highway 76 and Riser Road near Kinards.

Newberry County deputies said the truck was carrying ammonium nitrate and blasting caps, and was leaking diesel fuel. By 5:45 p.m., the truck had been righted and the leak had been stopped.

An evacuation was ordered within a half-mile of the scene, deputies said. They said people outside of that perimeter were also notified of the situation. They said the evacuation was lifted by 7:30 p.m.

Motorists were asked to use Interstate 26 to get around the area.

Investigators said it appears the truck ran onto the shoulder of the road, which had been softened by the rain, and overturned. The driver of the truck was taken to Newberry County Hospital for treatment.
