COLUMBIA, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Cheering fans sent off the two-time defending College World Series champion South Carolina Gamecocks to Omaha on Wednesday.

The pom-pom-wielding, sign-waving fans gathered outside Carolina Stadium in Columbia as the team boarded a bus bound for the airport. Players stopped to pose for pictures and signed autographs on their way to the bus.

The Gamecocks are hoping for a three-peat, after gaining the school its first back-to-back national title in any sport.

"It's still really exciting," said shortstop Joey Pankake. "It's going to be fun. I know we've worked hard to get here, and it's where we want to be."

"All these senior guys have been there before," said pitcher Evan Beal. "They really know the ropes, and they're going to keep our heads on our shoulders for us. We're just going to take it all in."

The Gamecocks start the double-elimination series against Florida on Saturday.
