ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

A thief has taken off with thousands of dollars worth of equipment belonging to a popular Asheville band.

Members of electronic rock band Sonmi said after a gig Wednesday night, they woke to find a synthesizer, a keyboard and an audio interface missing, along with several cables. They said the total loss is between $2,500 and $3,000.

"I think (the thief or thieves) were going around cars and pulling on handles until a door opened and they hit the jackpot," said band member Michel McBride.

Since the theft, the band has received a tremendous amount of help from the Asheville music scene. The Moog Store, which also held Sonmi's last concert before the theft, has loaned them equipment.

The band is also taking monetary donations to replace what they had lost, and have kept in contact with local pawn shops in case the thieves try to sell the equipment off.
