A Spartanburg man was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning.
The crash happened about 3:30 a.m. near the intersection of Warren H. Abernathy Highway and Blackstock Road.
Details of the crash were not immediately released, but Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said 31-year-old Shannon Cross died just before 5 a.m. at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center of internal injuries associated with a pedestrian versus vehicle collision. Toxicology tests are pending.
Cross was described by some as a family man and a father of five children, two with his fiancee Ebony Parks.
Family and friends gathered at his residence today hoping to hear some answers in the mysterious death.
Parks urged anyone with answers to speak up.
"If you see anything, hear anything, contact state troopers or highway patrol," Parks said. "If you find out anything please come forward."
Those close to Cross say they need to know what happened, to heal.
"To feel closure, and so we can stop with the grieving and feel more comfortable with everything that's going on," said Parks.
Clevenger said that investigators are still trying to figure out the circumstances surrounding the crash, but called the incident strange.
Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol's accident-reconstruction team blocked the highway Saturday morning while they determined how the crash happened.
