GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Deputies have arrested a man in connection with the deadly beating of a Greenville woman in May.

Greenville County deputies said they arrested James Gary, 33, of Greenville and charged him with murder in the death of Ellen Willingham, 55, who was found behind the old Waffle House at 4306 Augusta Road.

About 11:30 a.m. May 26, deputies found Willingham with severe injuries to her head. She was taken to the hospital where she later died the same day from those injuries as the result of blunt force trauma to the head.

Willingham's death was immediately classified as suspicious and through their investigation and tips from the public, deputies said it was a homicide.

Gary has been in the Greenville County Detention Center since May 29 on a Strong Arm Robbery charge by police in addition to a probation violation.

The murder warrant was served against Gary this morning at the detention center and he will have a bond hearing later Thursday.

Deputies said their investigation is ongoing and anyone with information about Willingham's death is asked to call the sheriff's office at 864-271-5210 or Crime Stoppers at 23-CRIME.
