CLINTON, SC (FOX Carolina) -
A Clinton police officer was arrested Tuesday after state investigators said he stole pain pills from the city's jail.
According to a news release from the State Law Enforcement Division, 36-year-old Clarence Lewis III, of Greenwood, was charged with misconduct in office and theft of a controlled substance.
According to arrest warrants, Lewis stole 116 hydrocodone tablets from the inmate storage area at the Clinton Public Safety Department between May and June.
Lewis was released from jail on $10,000 bond.
Lewis was fired from his job before his arrest, according to a representative for the Clinton Public Safety Department.
