SIDEBAR - GSP body scanners

Posted: Updated:

Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport is the fourth in South Carolina to get full body scanners. Read more on how they work and improve security.

Step 1: Remove all items, metal and non-metal items, from your pockets.

Step 2: Passengers will walk into the scanner and stand on the footprints. Passengers will be asked to stand in a position and remain still for a few seconds.

Step 3: A device will rotate around the portal, scanning the passenger. This detects any anomalies that could potentially be a security threat.

Step 4: Passengers then exit the opposite side and collects belongings. The entire process takes less than one minute. If something is detected or left in pockets, passengers may have to be re-screened.
