WELLFORD, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Spartanburg County firefighters were called back to Leigh Fibers in Wellford early Tuesday.  Fire departments battled flames at the same plant last Friday and Monday.

The smoke on Tuesday morning was much lighter.

The fire rekindled for a second time just after midnight on Monday, according to dispatchers. Witnesses reported that flames and smoke could be seen coming from the plant on Syphrit Road for miles.

Firefighters were able to get the rekindle under control on Monday, but two additional warehouses burned in the fire.

On Friday, Jennifer Lackey, the director of human resources at the Leigh Fibers plant, said they evacuated the warehouse as a safety precaution.

"Safety is our No. 1 priority," Lackey said. "We just want to make sure we provide full access to the fire department to allow them to do their jobs."

According to the Leigh Fibers' website, the Wellford facility is 1 million square feet and it produces 350 million pounds of fiber per year.

Two years ago, firefighters battled a fire at the plant. Investigators said the fire started with a tractor-trailer parked at the loading dock behind the building.
