HENDERSONVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

The rescue of 16-year-old Alyson Myers was a huge operation, by Henderson County standards. It was one that Dana Fire Chief Ben Lanning said he had never seen in his more than 20 years of service.

Myers' rescue started just before 2 p.m. Thursday.  Her boyfriend called 911, and in the tape of the incident released Friday, the gravity of the situation was shocking and all too clear.

Operator: And how far did she fall?  How far is it, do you know?
Caller: I have a flash light on my phone, it looks like 30 feet down.
Operator: Oh, my gosh.
Caller: Yes.

Lanning said the initial call they got Thursday afternoon was for a fall.

"The first gentleman we had that arrived on the scene, we could tell when he called that it was different than what we had been dispatched on," said Lanning.

In the recording, Myers' boyfriend was as calm and reassuring as he could be.  Myers can be heard on the recording, alert and talking back with her boyfriend, despite being weak and in pain.

Caller:  The thing is, it's like a 30-foot drop and then there's like a ring and then there's a hole, a smaller hole, like probably three feet wide, and it goes does in the water, and she says she climbed up from the water.

"For her to accomplish what she did, it's very commendable," said Jimmy Brissie with the Henderson County Rescue Squad.  He was one of two men who went down into the well to rescue Myers.

"I could tell she was tired," he said. "But our task at the time was assessing her physically, mentally, and the best way to get her packaged and out of there.  I could tell she was ready to be out."

Authorities say 30 people were ultimately involved in the rescue, and from the first person into the well, to the last person out, it was less than 30 minutes.

"It's like God was there helping each one of us, and it went that smooth for that reason," Lanning said.

Myers is recovering at Mission Hospital in Asheville.  FOX Carolina did put in a request to check on her condition, and also to check with the family to see how they're doing.  However, as of Friday night, Mission said the family is asking for privacy.
